OFS RegimeNavigator

Two separate answers on one panel: what the market is doing, and whether you are allowed to trade it. Regime, activity and hazard, quality per direction and a hard permission with the blocker named — volatility-normalized, decided on completed bars, never repainting.

Description

OFS RegimeNavigator answers the question you should ask before every entry: is this market currently worth trading at all, and if so, in which direction? It is a decision-support tool. It does not generate signals, does not predict price and never places an order.

TWO SEPARATE STATE MACHINES
The single most important design decision in this indicator: describing the market and permitting a trade are two different things, and they are kept apart.

A market can be in a clean uptrend while new long entries are a bad idea — because resistance is two ticks away, because volatility just exploded, because the range is too narrow to work with, or because scheduled news is minutes away. Most tools blur these two questions together and hand you a direction. This one gives you both answers separately, and tells you which of the two is stopping you.

WHY NOT JUST A TREND INDICATOR
Nothing in a standard platform answers the permission question. A moving average, an ADX or a trend filter tells you the market is going up; none of them tell you that going long right now is a bad idea because resistance is one volatility unit away, because volatility just tripled, because the range is too narrow to work, or because price is sitting in the worst part of it. Three more things are deliberately different here:

1. IT NAMES WHAT IS STOPPING YOU. Not a color change, not a value crossing a line — a code and a plain sentence: INSUFFICIENT SPACE LONG, "Trend remains up; do not chase into resistance." You can act on that, or overrule it, because you know what it is.

2. IT ADMITS WHAT IT DOES NOT KNOW. No confirmed obstacle in that direction means SPACE: UNKNOWN — never zero, never "clear". A missing session VWAP is labelled PROXY (EMA) instead of quietly substituting something else. Not enough history means UNCLASSIFIED and blocked, not a guess made on twenty bars.

3. IT REFUSES TO FLICKER. Every state must be confirmed for several bars and must stay a minimum time before anything can replace it, and enter and exit thresholds differ so a market sitting exactly on a boundary does not oscillate. The one thing that never waits is safety: hard blocks apply immediately.

WHAT IT ANSWERS
1. REGIME — is the market directional up, directional down, rotating, in transition, or not yet classifiable? A state is published only after it has been confirmed for several bars and has stayed long enough to be real.
2. ACTIVITY AND HAZARD — quiet, normal, elevated or shock. Shock is a hard stop: it triggers from volatility, from participation, or from a single oversized bar, and it does not release the moment the market calms down for one bar.
3. QUALITY — a 0 to 100 score for long and for short, independently. The scores rate a direction; they never choose it.
4. SPACE — how far the nearest confirmed obstacle is, measured in volatility units. When no obstacle is known, it says UNKNOWN — never zero, never "clear".
5. PERMISSION — blocked, observe, long allowed, short allowed, or range-edge only. When something is blocked, the panel names the blocker and says in one plain sentence what to do about it.

EVERYTHING IS NORMALIZED
One Volatility Unit (VU) is the median true range of the recent window, floored at a few ticks so a frozen market cannot produce a division by zero. Every distance, every threshold and every move requirement is expressed in VU, not in ticks or points. Normalization makes those measurements comparable across NQ, ES, BTC and EUR/USD. The built-in profiles supply separate starting values, and each still needs replay calibration on your own feed. Relative volatility asks "is this market faster than it has recently been?" instead of "was that one bar big?"

Activity is measured separately from volatility. On tick, volume and range charts it counts bars per minute; on time charts it measures volume per bar. Both are compared against their own median baseline. Optionally, activity is compared against the SAME time of day from previous sessions — because on futures the open and the midday lull are structurally different, and without that every quiet midday looks abnormal.

HOW TO READ THE PANEL
The panel reads top to bottom in the order a trader needs it:
• Regime — DIRECTIONAL_UP, DIRECTIONAL_DOWN, ROTATION, TRANSITION or UNCLASSIFIED. TRANSITION is not a failure state; it means the picture is changing and the replacement is not confirmed yet.
• Permission — BLOCKED, OBSERVE, LONG_ALLOWED, SHORT_ALLOWED or RANGE_EDGE_ONLY. This is the line you act on.
• Long quality / Short quality — quality of each direction out of 100, computed independently from efficiency, anchor, structure, chop, activity, space and stability.
• Activity — QUIET, NORMAL, ELEVATED or SHOCK.
• Structure — BULLISH, BEARISH, NEUTRAL or CONFLICT. Conflict means price direction disagrees with confirmed swing structure; that is information, not noise.
• Space long / Space short — distance to the nearest confirmed obstacle in VU, or UNKNOWN.
• Blocker and Message — when entries are not permitted, the exact reason code plus a plain sentence: for example INSUFFICIENT_SPACE_LONG, "Trend remains up; do not chase into resistance." Or MID_RANGE, "Price sits in the middle of the range — the worst place to enter."
• Reason — when nothing is blocking, the codes that explain the current reading.
• Anchor / Structure source — shown only when the indicator is working with a substitute: PROXY (EMA) when a true session VWAP is not available from the feed, or DISABLED when you turned structure off yourself. It never pretends to have data it does not have.
• Preview — optional, and clearly separate: what the forming bar would produce. The confirmed state above it is never overwritten.
• Detailed panel mode adds the raw numbers behind the decision: relative volatility, activity rate, efficiency, net move, anchor crossings and slope, persistence, overlap and transition pressure — everything you need to calibrate the thresholds yourself.
Optional quality meters can draw the two scores as filled bars from 0 to 100; they are off by default because permission and its blocker come first.

WHAT IS DRAWN
The one-line Decision Badge is the primary chart output: regime, permission and the current blocker remain readable even when the table panel is hidden.
Secondary visuals are optional and start off on new instances. The orange EMA(34) anchor (or optional session VWAP) is context, never support, resistance or an entry line; it joins completed-bar values without artificial smoothing. Regime-change labels suppress collisions when zoomed out. The nearest unbroken, reaction-qualified obstacle can be shown as a configurable full-width R and S line. Optional quality meters compare the two directional context scores.
Every element has its own switch in 15 · Chart Visuals. No arrows on candles, no signals, no alerts you did not switch on. Color is only reinforcement - every state is written in words.

== ANTI-FLICKER, BY DESIGN ==
A context tool that changes its mind every bar is worse than no tool. Every state must be confirmed for a number of bars, must stay for a minimum dwell time before it can be replaced, and thresholds have separate enter and exit values so a market sitting exactly on a boundary does not oscillate. Shock releases only after volatility falls below a lower release threshold and stays there. Permission is granted slowly and withdrawn instantly — safety never waits.

BUILT-IN STARTING PROFILES
Documented starting values for NQ/MNQ 250-tick, ES/MES 500-tick, BTC-USD 1-minute and EUR/USD spot 1-minute, applied with one setting. They are starting points, not claims of optimality: replay-test them on your own feed, venue and session template. Every built-in profile uses EMA(34) as the responsive regime anchor. Spot FX also turns activity measurement off because there is no single centralized volume tape.

MACHINE-READABLE OUTPUT
Every published value is also available as a numeric series — regime, permission, activity, both quality scores, relative volatility, activity rate, efficiency, net move, anchor slope, transition pressure, space and stable primary reason and blocker codes — so other modules and exports can read the state without parsing text.

HONESTY
When the anchor is a substitute, it says PROXY. When obstacles are unknown, space says UNKNOWN and your unknown-space policy decides what that means — it never quietly counts as "plenty of room". When there is not enough history, the state is UNCLASSIFIED and trading is blocked with DATA_WARMUP rather than guessed. Nothing is computed from the forming bar unless you explicitly turn the preview on, and even then it lives on its own line.

Installation guide
1. Create or sign in to your OrderFlowSmith account with the same e-mail address used by your ATAS account. When access to OFS RegimeNavigator is activated and the e-mails match, ATAS delivers the indicator automatically; do not install a DLL manually.
2. Open or fully restart ATAS so the automatically delivered indicator becomes available in the indicator catalogue. Whenever an update is released through ATAS, fully restart the platform; ATAS downloads and loads the new version automatically.
3. Only if the OrderFlowSmith and ATAS e-mails are different, download OFS.RegimeNavigator.dll from your OrderFlowSmith account and install it manually: %APPDATA%\ATAS\Indicators for classic ATAS or %APPDATA%\ATAS X\Indicators for ATAS X. After every update, download and replace the DLL manually, then fully restart ATAS. If Windows blocked the file, open DLL Properties and select Unblock.
4. Add OFS RegimeNavigator to a chart.
5. Open indicator settings → 01 · License → paste the license key from your OrderFlowSmith account (it is also sent by e-mail).
6. The footer shows the installed version and "license OK". The indicator starts publishing state once the warm-up bars are collected.

First settings worth a look: 06 · Mode & Inputs → Instrument Profile if you trade NQ, ES, BTC or EUR/USD; 17 · Panel → Panel Mode (switch to Detailed while you calibrate); 12 · Permission → Minimum Score if the indicator is stricter or looser than you want. Every setting has a tooltip explaining what it does and why it exists.
Changelog — version 1.3.5
1.3.5 - PANEL LAYOUT AND VISIBILITY CONTROLS.

The regime table, badge and meters can each be switched On or Off and default to Off. When enabled, all variants share the same nine-position stack, including horizontal and vertical centering, remain clamped inside the chart, and default to Top Right with 20 px offsets. Check for Updates remains enabled by default. Regime classification and signal calculations are unchanged.

1.3.4 - RESPONSIVE EMA ANCHOR RESTORED.

A live chart comparison exposed a migration regression: the mode historically presented as Session VWAP with fallback had actually drawn EMA(34), while the audit corrected it to true cumulative session VWAP without preserving the former default. That made the anchor much flatter later in each session.

New instances and every built-in profile now use explicit EMA(34), restoring a readable local slope. True session VWAP remains available as an intentional slower fair-value option. Saved charts keep their selected anchor; choose EMA once or reapply the profile to adopt the restored default.

Regression coverage is 75 checks. Static tests do not replace live ATAS validation.

1.3.3 - RESTORED S/R LINES AND CALM TRANSITION BADGE.

Support and Resistance are again named R and S and extend across the full chart. Their colors, visibility, label font and new 1-5 px line width are configurable.

TRANSITION with OBSERVE is a normal market state, not an error: its badge now uses the transition color and no longer repeats TRANSITION STATE. The Session VWAP/EMA anchor remains an exact configurable reference series; choose EMA for a local anchor or hide the anchor if session VWAP is not useful to the workflow.

Regression coverage is 73 checks. Static tests do not replace live ATAS validation.

1.3.2 - READABLE DECISIONS AND UNBROKEN R/S.

A live ATAS X chart exposed two problems that static checks had not closed. Reaction-qualified pivots could reappear after price had already closed through them; broken pivots are now permanently excluded from the fallback obstacle map. R/S remains a space blocker, not an entry signal.

The hidden panel no longer hides the actual decision: the independent badge shows regime, permission and the primary blocker. New instances start with the orange anchor, historical regime labels, quality meters and room guides off. Optional R/S guides are short and explicitly labelled ROOM TO R/S, while zoomed-out regime labels suppress collisions. The bar-by-bar anchor remains unsmoothed because smoothing would invent values.

ROT means rotation and permits only a confirmed range-edge workflow when the range is wide enough; TRAN means transition and therefore observe/no new trade. Regression coverage is 71 checks. This is a static release candidate until version 1.3.2 is accepted in ATAS/ATAS X.

1.3.1 - RELIABLE R/S OBSTACLES ACROSS TIMEFRAMES.

The internal fallback no longer promotes every small 3-left/3-right fractal to support or resistance. A pivot must first produce a close-based reaction measured in Volatility Units; the universal/NQ default is 1.25 VU and each supplied profile uses its own space scale. This removes micro-noise while preserving a genuinely tested obstacle even when price later returns close to it.

The new Minimum Obstacle Reaction setting is adjustable, with zero available only for legacy unfiltered behaviour. Regression coverage is 66 checks. Static tests do not replace live chart validation.

1.3.0 - DEEP SPECIFICATION AUDIT AND ENGINE HARDENING.

Regime classification now follows the original specification: rotation accepts crossing OR overlap and requires a flat anchor, ordinary trends use their own overlap threshold, no-evidence remains UNCLASSIFIED, and shock cannot publish a new directional state.

Core features now use close-to-close efficiency and displacement, smaller-range overlap, historical anchor values, nearest confirmed pivots, true session VWAP when volume is available, median activity and one vote per completed session for time-of-day normalization. Quality now includes the specified anchor, chop, space and stability components.

Invalid OHLC, time, volume or tick input now blocks immediately and recovers only after a full clean history, plus a clean session segment for session VWAP. Optional opening, closing and maintenance lockouts are available. Preview, completed-bar processing, rendering and public getters share one lock; historical volatility bands no longer repaint and machine-series indexes stay compatible.

Anchor persistence now respects its neutral buffer and RTH/ETH boundaries, explicit EMA no longer resets as if it were session VWAP, and shock release waits for both volatility and activity to calm down. Machine integrations receive the documented JSON event payload plus canonical primary reason and blocker series, while the legacy BlockerCode index remains compatible.

The time-of-day baseline and True Range cache now have deterministic memory ceilings for very fast or very long charts. A dedicated regression suite covers classification, math, sessions, reset and reload, public series, and product and installation contracts.

1.2.7 - THE UPDATE CARD NOW TELLS YOU WHAT IS NEW.

The centred new-version card - product name, your version and the new one, a Close button - now also shows a short description of what each release brings. Identical in every OFS indicator.

1.2.6 - SMALL AUDIT FIXES: NEWS WINDOW ACROSS MIDNIGHT, A STEADY PANEL, ONE MARKER FOR UNKNOWN, AND CLEAN ACTIVITY AFTER A GAP.

The news lockout window now works across midnight - an event at 23:55 with a ten-minute window also blocks at 00:05.

The intrabar preview briefly rewrites the engine state while it computes; the panel could catch that middle state for a single frame and show preview values as confirmed. Panel and preview now take turns, so the panel always shows the confirmed state.

The machine-readable space outputs used two different "not known" markers (the series -9999, the properties the decimal minimum). Both now use -9999.

The first bar after an overnight break looked like near-zero activity and diluted the activity average for a while after the open. A gap longer than ten minutes now counts as "unknown" and is left out of both the average and the baselines.

Measured, not guessed: the per-bar calculation costs about 14 microseconds - a 400,000-bar chart loads its history in about five seconds, so no optimisation was needed.

1.2.5 - ALERTS ACTUALLY FIRE NOW, THE PREVIEW FOLLOWS THE FORMING BAR, AND TIMES ARE PICKED, NOT TYPED.

All six alerts were silently dead: the guard that keeps alerts from replaying history was off by one bar, so it also swallowed every live event. It now uses the correct boundary, and the regime, permission, shock, range-edge, space-block and data-degradation alerts fire again - still only on the live market, never from a reload.

Preview Intrabar was computed once at the first tick of each bar and then froze. It now refreshes as the forming bar moves, at most four times a second.

Regular Hours Start/End and the news Event Time use the platform's own time picker instead of a typed HH:mm text. Values are still shown in your selected Time Zone and anchored to the exchange clock underneath, so switching the zone never moves a session cut. If you had custom times saved from an older version, set them once again - the old text values cannot carry over into the new editors.

Smaller fixes: transition pressure and both quality scores now read the close of the bar being processed (they could lag one bar behind during a fast catch-up), and the Instrument Profile description no longer claims that switching back to Auto restores the universal values - Auto simply stops overwriting.

1.2.4 - TRUE COLOURS AND A CARD THAT ALWAYS SHOWS.

The ribbon, bands and other semi-transparent elements were drawn in two layers on top of each other and looked darker than the colour you picked - they are drawn once now. The new-version card shows even when the panel is hidden or the key is missing. The Down colour default follows the site palette (violet A855F7).

1.2.3 - NEW UPDATE CARD, CENTRED AND WITH DIRECT LINKS.

The card that appears when a newer version is available has been redesigned, identically for every OFS indicator. It now sits exactly in the centre of the chart, shows each product with its current and new version, recommends updating, and carries clearly visible buttons: an Info button that opens the product's page on orderflowsmith.com directly, a Close button at the bottom and the familiar cross in the corner. When several OFS indicators on one chart have updates at once, they all share the single card - one line and one Info button each.

1.2.2 - ALERT SOUND IS A LIST WITH A PLAY BUTTON.

The alert sound used to be a text field with "alert1" typed into it. If you did not already know what the sound files are called, there was no way to find out from inside the indicator, and a typo produced silence rather than an error. It is now the platform's own sound picker: a drop-down of the installed sounds with a small play button beside it, so you can hear a sound before you settle on it. It is the same control ATAS uses in its own indicators.

Because the list comes from the platform rather than from us, it also shows sounds you added yourself - drop a .wav into the platform's Sounds folder and it appears.

A sound you had chosen before is kept.

1.2.0 - TIME ZONE AND SESSIONS, A CHOICE OF WHAT DRIVES THE REGIME, AND ALERTS.

A new settings group, 05 · Session & Time: Time Zone, a Manual Offset with no daylight-saving switching, a Session Template that follows the platform by default, and Regular Hours you can state yourself. Times arrive from the platform in UTC and UTC stays the default.

06 · Mode & Inputs now lets you choose what the regime is actually measured FROM - Operating Mode, Activity Source and an Instrument Profile - plus Separate RTH and ETH, so the overnight session is no longer judged by day-session standards, and a Warm-Up so nothing is declared before there are enough bars to declare it from.

07 · Normalization exposes what the measurement is scaled against: volatility lookback, baseline lookback and a floor in ticks, so a frozen market cannot collapse the scale.

Alerts are new, and every one of them is OFF by default. There is also a diagnostic log for checking on your own data what the indicator declared and why.

1.1.7 - THE UPDATE CARD'S CLOSE BUTTON IS A REAL BUTTON - a framed, highlighted square instead of a faint cross, comfortably clickable.

1.1.6 - THE PANEL FOOTER NO LONGER SHOWS YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS. It read Licensed to: your@address - expires <date>, so anyone you sent a screenshot to could read who the license belongs to. It now reads v1.1.6 - license OK: version first, then the state of the license and nothing else, the same in every OFS indicator. Who the license belongs to stays in the settings, where only you see it.

1.1.5 - A NEW VERSION NOTICE. Once a day the indicator asks orderflowsmith.com whether a newer version has been released and, if so, shows a small card on the chart with what the new version brings you.

It sends nothing at all - no license key, no product name, not a single parameter - so the request cannot tell anyone what you use, and one request covers every OFS indicator on the chart. The answer is signed with the same key as your license, so nothing else can put text on your chart. It never blocks anything and it stays silent when there is no connection.

There is one card per chart, not one per indicator, and it lists every product that has an update. Close it and it will not come back until the next release. It can be switched off in Settings under 01 License.

1.1.4 - LICENCE GATE ON NOTIFICATIONS. Platform alerts and Telegram messages now require a valid key, exactly like the drawing on the chart does. The gate sits in the place where a notification is actually sent, not at the caller, so it cannot be bypassed by a new call site. Any queued notifications are discarded while the key is missing, so they do not pile up and all fire at once the moment a key is entered.

0.5.0 - it can now be asked why, and every color is yours.

- Added: a diagnostic log. One line per completed bar with every feature that went into the decision - efficiency, displacement, anchor slope and persistence, crossings, overlap, structure, space, transition pressure and activity - the candidate state, the state actually adopted, the confirmation counters, both quality scores and the permission. Most importantly it names WHICH single condition stopped a directional state, so 'the regime is always Transition' becomes an answerable question instead of an impression. Off by default.
- Added: every color drawn on the chart is a setting - the four regime states plus unclassified, the anchor line, the volatility band, support and resistance, the quality meter track and its two fills, and label text. Transparency is part of each color rather than a second field beside it, and shades that need to be lighter are derived from the same setting so one change moves them together.
- Removed: the full-height vertical line drawn at every regime change. The marker that names the new state stays; a line across the price does not.
- Verified: all 104 settings take effect immediately, none requires removing and re-adding the indicator.

0.4.10 - the context panel is off by default.

- Changed: the context panel now starts hidden. Adding the indicator to a chart leaves the chart clean, and the panel is one switch away in the context panel settings group.
- Unchanged and worth repeating: every alert is off by default. Nothing in this indicator makes a sound until you ask it to.
- Changed: the quality meters are drawn even when the panel is hidden. They belong to the chart visuals, so they no longer disappear together with the panel.

0.4.9 - the indicator now draws what it knows instead of only writing it.

- Added: the anchor line is colored by the regime of each bar, so the regime sits on the price instead of in a separate strip.
- Added: the bar where the regime changed is marked with a tick and a short code (UP, DOWN, ROT, TRAN). A regime that holds tells you nothing new; the bar where it turned does.
- Added: the nearest obstacle above and below the price is drawn with the room to it in volatility units - the number that blocks entries most often.
- Added: long and short quality are drawn as two filled bars from 0 to 100 under the panel. Length is read at a glance; a number has to be compared with something.
- Added: an optional volatility band one unit above and below the anchor, so the scale every other distance is measured in stops being abstract.
- Fixed: the regime ribbon was drawn half a candle to the right - it started at the middle of each bar instead of at its beginning.
- Settings: the new switches live in the new group 12 - Chart Visuals, together with the anchor line and the ribbon; alerts moved from group 12 to 13.

0.4.8 — the reference anchor line was half a candle to the right.

- Fixed: the platform's GetXByBar already returns the middle of a bar and the code added half a bar width on top of it, so the anchor line was drawn shifted against the candles it describes. The same mistake was found and corrected in all OFS indicators at once.

0.4.7 — the context panel can now be moved as far as your screen needs. The offset limit was 400 pixels, a number with no reason behind it that ran out on a large or high-resolution chart. The setting also had two different limits — the editor stopped at 400 while the code accepted more — which is now consistent.

First release of OFS RegimeNavigator — the complete specification implemented, 97 settings, all applying immediately.

- Two separate state machines: what the market is doing, and whether you are permitted to trade it — with the blocker always named in plain language
- Everything normalized to volatility units with a tick floor, so the same settings work on NQ, ES, BTC and FX
- Activity measured independently of volatility: bars per minute on tick/volume/range charts, volume per bar on time charts, each against its own median baseline
- Optional time-of-day normalization, so a quiet midday is not mistaken for an abnormal market
- Shock detection from volatility, from participation or from a single oversized bar, released only through hysteresis and a required calm period
- Per-direction quality scores computed independently from efficiency, anchor, structure, chop, activity, space and stability
- Space to the nearest confirmed obstacle in volatility units, with an honest UNKNOWN and a policy for what that should mean
- Anti-flicker throughout: confirmation bars, minimum dwell, separate enter and exit thresholds; permission is granted slowly and withdrawn instantly
- Documented starting profiles for NQ/MNQ 250-tick, ES/MES 500-tick, BTC-USD 1-minute and EUR/USD spot 1-minute
- Session template with RTH/ETH separation and an independent anchor for each
- Optional intrabar preview on its own channel — the confirmed state is never overwritten
- Optional anchor line and regime ribbon; no arrows on candles, color only reinforces the text
- Machine-readable output series including a stable blocker code, for other OFS modules and exports
- Alerts for regime change, permission change, shock, range-edge eligibility, space block and data degradation, each with a cooldown — all switched off by default, and none of them ever fires while the chart is loading history or recalculating

0.4.1
- Fixed: alerts fired while the chart was loading history and again after every settings change, so dozens of popup windows appeared at once for events that were days old. Alerts now only report the live market.
- Every alert is now switched off by default. Turn on the ones you want.

0.4.2
- Changing a setting is now immediate. Every setting used to trigger a full recalculation of the entire chart history, synchronously, on the interface thread — and numeric fields did it on every keystroke, so one change could freeze the platform for seconds. Changes are now collected and calculated once, when you stop adjusting.
- Setting a value it already had now does nothing at all, so loading a chart template no longer recalculates dozens of times over.
- The context panel now uses the shared OFS panel: the same title, separator, aligned labels and muted license line as every other OFS indicator.
- The panel now has one shared size and border everywhere: the same minimum width, the same 1 px accent border and the same separator as every other OFS indicator, so two panels above each other read as one product.
- The panel border is now the same blue and the same thickness in every OFS indicator; state is reported by the text and the badge, never by recolouring the frame.
- Product description rewritten to say plainly what a trend filter does not do: name the blocker, admit what is unknown, and refuse to flicker.
- Panel width is now measured from the text that is actually drawn, so nothing spills outside the frame any more.
- Machine codes are shown in readable form in the panel (DIRECTIONAL UP, not DIRECTIONAL_UP). The codes themselves are unchanged in alerts and in the output series.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a trend filter or an ADX?
Those answer one question — is there a trend — and leave the harder one to you. This keeps two separate answers: what the market is doing, and whether you should be trading it. A market can be in a clean uptrend while long entries are blocked because resistance is one volatility unit away, because volatility just tripled, or because the quality of that direction is below your minimum. When something blocks you, the panel names it and says in one sentence what to do about it, rather than changing a color and leaving you to guess.
What is the difference between the regime and the permission?
The regime describes the market; the permission describes you. They are deliberately two separate state machines. A market can be DIRECTIONAL_UP while long entries are BLOCKED — because resistance is one volatility unit away, because volatility just spiked, or because the quality score for that direction is below your minimum. The panel always names which of the two is stopping you.
Does the indicator repaint?
No. Every state is decided on completed bars and is published only after it has been confirmed. The optional intrabar preview is computed on a separate channel, shown on its own PREVIEW line, and never overwrites the confirmed state. Identical data with identical settings always produces identical output.
What is a volatility unit (VU)?
One VU is the median true range of the recent window, with a floor of a few ticks so a frozen market cannot produce a division by zero. Every distance and every threshold is expressed in VU instead of ticks or points, which makes the measurements comparable across markets. Use the matching built-in profile as a starting point and replay-calibrate it on your own feed and session.
Why does it say SPACE: UNKNOWN instead of a number?
Because no reliable confirmed obstacle has been found in that direction yet. Internal pivots must produce the configured close-based reaction in VU, and any pivot later broken by a close is discarded; tiny or obsolete fractals are deliberately ignored. Unknown is not the same as "clear", and showing zero or a large number would be a lie. What happens next is your choice: Unknown Space Policy can observe only (the default), treat space as neutral, allow entries anyway, or block them entirely.
Why is my state UNCLASSIFIED and everything blocked?
Not enough history yet. Until the warm-up bars are collected the indicator refuses to publish a state and blocks with DATA_WARMUP. That is deliberate — a guess made on twenty bars is worse than an honest "not yet".
What does ANCHOR: PROXY (EMA) mean?
That a true session VWAP was not available from your data feed, so an exponential moving average is being used as the reference instead. The indicator says so rather than presenting a substitute as the real thing. On spot FX this is expected — there is no single centralized volume tape, so EMA is the documented default.
Can I use the profiles for NQ, ES, BTC or EUR/USD?
Yes — 06 · Mode & Inputs → Instrument Profile writes the documented starting values for that market and chart type in one step. They are starting points, not claims of optimality: replay-test them on your own data feed, venue and session template before trading them.
Why does the state not change the moment the market changes?
By design. A context tool that changes its mind every bar is worse than no tool. Every state must be confirmed for several bars and must stay for a minimum dwell before it can be replaced, and the enter and exit thresholds differ so a market sitting on a boundary does not oscillate. The one exception is safety: hard blocks apply immediately.
Does it work on both ATAS and ATAS X?
Yes. The same DLL targets the shared indicator API used by classic ATAS Platform and ATAS X. Both load indicator libraries at startup, so fully restart the platform after installing or receiving an update.
Where do I enter my license key?
In the indicator settings, group 01 · License — the first group in the list. Paste the key from your OrderFlowSmith account. It is verified locally, so no internet connection is required while trading.
Do settings take effect immediately?
Yes — every setting apply the moment you change them. Ones that only affect appearance redraw straight away; ones that change what is calculated recompute the history. You never need to remove and re-add the indicator.
Can other indicators read its output?
Yes. With Publish Machine Series switched on, the regime, permission, activity, both quality scores, relative volatility, activity rate, efficiency, net move, anchor slope, transition pressure, space and a stable blocker code are all available as numeric data series.
Is there a trial?
Yes, a 7-day trial with full functionality — one trial per ATAS e-mail and product.
Does it place orders or send signals?
No. It describes context and states whether it found a reason to block. Entries, exits and risk stay entirely with you.
Is it just a text panel?
No. The primary Decision Badge writes regime, permission and the blocker even when the table panel is hidden. Optional visuals under 15 · Chart Visuals include the completed-bar anchor, collision-suppressed regime history, configurable full-width R/S lines and quality meters. They start off on new instances so the decision remains readable; R/S and the orange anchor are context, not entry signals.
⚠ OFS RegimeNavigator is an analytical decision-support tool only. It does not generate trade signals, does not predict price movement and does not guarantee any outcome. A permission state is not advice to trade — it only means the indicator found no reason to block. Trading futures, forex and crypto carries a substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for everyone. This product is analysis software — it is not financial, investment or trading advice, and it cannot guarantee any profit. Every decision stays with you: whether to trade at all, position size, stop-loss and when to walk away. Any performance figures we publish come from historical testing; hypothetical and back-tested results have inherent limitations and never guarantee future results. To the maximum extent permitted by law, OrderFlowSmith is not liable for trading losses, missed opportunities or other damage arising from the use of this software. Never trade with money you cannot afford to lose.
