How our tools work

The method behind the indicators — and the rules we refuse to break.

We read the flow, not the noise

Every OrderFlowSmith tool starts from the same raw material: order flow. Depending on the product that means volume at price, delta, the footprint of aggressive versus passive trading, resting liquidity in the book, or how value migrates over a session.

The job of the indicator is to turn that raw flow into something you can reason about — a level, a state, a signal — while staying honest about what the data can and cannot tell you.

The rules we do not break

🚫︎

No repainting

A signal that printed on a closed bar stays put. We never redraw history to look right.

📌︎

Decisions on closed bars

Read from a price that can still change and you are fooling yourself. We decide on completed bars.

📏︎

Measured, not guessed

Values come from the real data on your chart (volume-at-price, book, trades) — not from smoothed approximations dressed up as fact.

🧾︎

Evidence on the chart

When a tool cannot get the data it needs, it says so. No silent fallback to a weaker method.

Built clean, tested hard

The analytical core of each tool is written to be independent of the platform and is covered by automated tests — the same input always produces the same output. That is what lets us promise no repainting and honest determinism, and it is why we can fix a problem without breaking three others.

We are also honest about limits. Where a result is illustrative or backtested rather than proven live, we say so on the product page.

Licensing that respects you

Most vendors bind a license to a machine. It solves piracy on paper and creates a support problem in practice: every new laptop becomes a ticket. We bind the license to your ATAS account instead, so it follows you, not your hardware. Fair for honest customers, and enough friction to keep the rest honest too.
