OFS CandlePulse

A footprint you read at a glance instead of counting. CandlePulse keeps the footprint maths and throws away the numbers: every candle becomes a fixed-size picture of who was aggressive, where, and whether that aggression actually moved price.

Almost ready for your charts

OFS CandlePulse is built and measured — it is just not in the shop yet, so there is no price and no Add to cart to look for on this page.

Everything you see here is already true — the rules it follows, the numbers it produced and the warnings that come with them. Have a read now and decide later: the moment it goes on sale, the license options and the free trial appear right here.

Description

OFS CandlePulse turns the inside of a candle into a picture you can read in under a second.

WHAT IT ADDS OVER THE FOOTPRINT YOUR PLATFORM ALREADY DRAWS

The built-in footprint is accurate and complete - and while you are scalping, that is exactly the problem. You have to zoom in, read many Bid x Ask pairs, and combine imbalance, absorption, volume concentration and price response in your head while the market moves. CandlePulse does that arithmetic and shows the conclusion. The strip sits in a corner of your price chart and keeps the SAME SIZE at every zoom level, so you never zoom the chart again just to read order flow.

HOW TO READ IT

The strip shows the last closed candles as compact tiles, and the candle that is still forming as one large LIVE tile on the right. Inside a tile, the centre axis separates aggressive selling (left) from aggressive buying (right); the width of a bar is that side's executed volume relative to the strongest band of the same candle. Bands run bottom to top exactly like price.

Colours are one permanent vocabulary. A color never means two different things:

- GREEN, buy pressure: aggressive buying dominates the band AND price responded upwards.
- RED, sell pressure: the mirror image.
- BLUE, block: heavy aggressive volume met weak price progress at an extreme. This is where potential absorption lives - but it is inferred from effort against result, never observed, and the indicator never claims who is absorbing.
- YELLOW, fading: aggression or activity weakens towards the extreme across several bands in a row. One quiet band at the edge is not fading.
- PURPLE, failed aggression: price first travelled in the direction of the aggression and then gave that move back.
- GREY, balanced: neither side reached the minimum. That is not the same as low volume.

Three intensities - soft, normal, strong - show how unusual the activity is compared with recent candles. There are no percentages, because a percentage here would be invented precision.

WHY IT BEHAVES THE SAME ON NQ, ES AND BTC

There is not a single hard-coded volume threshold anywhere. Activity is classified by rolling percentiles over the last 100 candles, and all geometry comes from the instrument tick size. Five thousand contracts is a lot on one market and nothing on another; "above the 95th percentile of the last hundred candles" means the same thing everywhere.

MULTI-CANDLE SEQUENCES

CandlePulse also names simple, observable sequences: CONTINUATION FLOW, REVERSAL RESPONSE, MOMENTUM FADING, FAILED PUSH and TWO-SIDED AUCTION. A sequence appears only on the candle where it was CONFIRMED - it is never painted back onto the candle where it began. Both bars are stored internally, so what you saw live is what you see after a reload.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

It does not predict the next move and it produces no BUY/SELL signals. It does not identify participants: executed Bid/Ask volume cannot reveal identity, intent, profitability, or whether a position is being opened or closed. Fading does not guarantee a reversal, and failed aggression describes a lost price gain, not a trapped trader. It needs no Market-by-Order data. It is decision support that explains what just happened inside the candles - not a trading system.

WHAT WE RECOMMEND

Leave the defaults alone. Adaptive bands with a 100-bar normalisation window fit most intraday charts, and the presets only change display density and window length, never the meaning of a state. Give it the warm-up it asks for: until 30 candles are measured it says "warming up" instead of guessing. If you are color-blind, switch on the color-blind safe theme - it replaces the red and green pair with blue and orange.

Installation guide
1. Create or sign in to your OrderFlowSmith account with the same e-mail address used by your ATAS account. When access to OFS CandlePulse is activated and the e-mails match, ATAS delivers the indicator automatically; do not install a DLL manually.
2. Open or fully restart ATAS so the automatically delivered indicator becomes available in the indicator catalogue. Whenever an update is released through ATAS, fully restart the platform; ATAS downloads and loads the new version automatically.
3. Only if the OrderFlowSmith and ATAS e-mails are different, download OFS.CandlePulse.dll from your OrderFlowSmith account and install it manually: %APPDATA%\ATAS\Indicators for classic ATAS or %APPDATA%\ATAS X\Indicators for ATAS X. After every update, download and replace the DLL manually, then fully restart ATAS. If Windows blocked the file, open DLL Properties and select Unblock.
4. Add OFS CandlePulse to a chart. The strip is anchored to a corner of the price chart and keeps the same size at every zoom level; move it with Strip Position and the two offsets.
5. Copy the license key from your account and paste it into the indicator setting 01 - License.
6. Use a chart that carries footprint data - a feed that delivers Bid and Ask at price. The panel tells you when that data is missing.
7. Wait for the warm-up. The panel shows "Warming up 12 / 30 bars" and classifies nothing until the window is filled. That is deliberate, not a delay.
8. Optional: set the tile width and the live tile scale to taste. Everything else can stay as it is.
Changelog — version 1.2.2
1.2.2 - ALERTS ON EVERY TIMEFRAME.

The Block, Failed Push and state alerts now use the time of the last trade of the closed candle. Until now they used the time the candle opened, and the shared live check (an alert only for what is happening now, never from history) dropped every alert of a candle longer than five minutes - on 5-minute, 15-minute or hourly charts the alerts never came.

Nothing else changed: the candle states, the colours and saved charts stay as they were.

1.2.1 - CHECK FOR UPDATES CHECKS AT ONCE; THE NEW-VERSION CARD ALWAYS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CHART.

Unticking Check For Updates in the settings and ticking it again now asks orderflowsmith.com for the latest version straight away and, when a newer version exists, shows the card at once - also on a weekend or in a quiet market with no new ticks. Until now the check started only if the chart happened to redraw between the two clicks, so without ticks nothing happened, and the answer waited for the next redraw. Ticking it again also brings back a card you closed earlier.

The new-version card always opens in the middle of the chart, whatever the position of the control panel or the notices of the indicator. Nothing else changed: the calculation, the settings and saved charts stay as they were.

1.2.0 - SETTINGS IN THE COMMON OFS ORDER; CHECK FOR UPDATES ON DEMAND.

The settings window follows the same layout in every OFS indicator: 01 License first (product, key, website, version, Check For Updates), then Session & Time where it applies, the indicator's own groups, and at the end Panel, Alerts, Telegram and Log. Saved charts keep all their values - only names and the order of the groups changed.

Check For Updates now also works on demand: untick it and tick it again and the indicator asks orderflowsmith.com straight away - a new-version card you closed earlier comes back as well. Until now the switch promised this but the check waited for its daily turn.

In this indicator: 01 - License now shows the product, website and version; the panel gains Panel Offset X/Y, Panel Background (with transparency), Show Notices, Notice Position and Notice Offset X/Y - the licence notice and a new warm-up notice have their own place and switch. Every setting redraws the chart at once, even on a scrolled chart. No upper limits any more on sizes, offsets, windows and counts - only a logical minimum; percentiles go up to 100 and fractions up to 1. The pressure map keeps as much history as its Lookback asks for (it used to stop at 100 bars). The licence key description no longer shows an internal product code.

1.1.13 - THE UPDATE CARD NOW TELLS YOU WHAT IS NEW.

The centred new-version card - product name, your version and the new one, a Close button - now also shows a short description of what each release brings. Identical in every OFS indicator.

1.1.12 - THE LICENCE NOTICE ALWAYS SHOWS, AND THE LIVE EDGE IS THROTTLED.

Without a valid key the chart used to stay completely empty unless the panel was switched on - there was nothing telling you where to paste the key. The licence notice now shows regardless of the panel setting, and the new-version card shows without a licence too.

On the live edge the indicator rebuilt its snapshots and asked the platform to repaint on every tick. Both are now throttled to about seven times a second - the calculation itself still processes every tick, only the screen work is paced.

1.1.11 - TEMPLATE COMPLIANCE: SITE COLOURS AND AN HONEST LICENSE FOOTER.

Sell defaults follow the site palette (violet A855F7); the Failed state, which used that violet before, moved to the alarm red so the two can never be confused. The colour-blind palette is unchanged.

The license state shown in the panel footer is now always the current one, and a newly pasted key takes effect immediately. The alert sound description was empty and is filled in.

1.1.10 - NEW UPDATE CARD, CENTRED AND WITH DIRECT LINKS.

The card that appears when a newer version is available has been redesigned, identically for every OFS indicator. It now sits exactly in the centre of the chart, shows each product with its current and new version, recommends updating, and carries clearly visible buttons: an Info button that opens the product's page on orderflowsmith.com directly, a Close button at the bottom and the familiar cross in the corner. When several OFS indicators on one chart have updates at once, they all share the single card - one line and one Info button each.

1.1.9 - SYMBOLS AND COLUMNS SIT ON THE CANDLE AXIS TO THE PIXEL.

The state symbols, the effort and result columns and the live magnifier were anchored one to two pixels to the side of the candle they describe, and at odd bar widths the offset changed as you scrolled. They now use the exact same formula the chart itself draws the candle wick with, so everything lines up with its candle at every zoom.

1.1.8 - ALERT SOUND IS A LIST WITH A PLAY BUTTON.

The alert sound used to be a text field with "alert1" typed into it. If you did not already know what the sound files are called, there was no way to find out from inside the indicator, and a typo produced silence rather than an error. It is now the platform's own sound picker: a drop-down of the installed sounds with a small play button beside it, so you can hear a sound before you settle on it. It is the same control ATAS uses in its own indicators.

Because the list comes from the platform rather than from us, it also shows sounds you added yourself - drop a .wav into the platform's Sounds folder and it appears.

A sound you had chosen before is kept.

1.1.6 - THE UPDATE CARD'S CLOSE BUTTON IS A REAL BUTTON - a framed, highlighted square instead of a faint cross, comfortably clickable.

1.1.5 - THE PANEL FOOTER NO LONGER SHOWS YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS. It read Licensed to: your@address - expires <date>, so anyone you sent a screenshot to could read who the license belongs to. It now reads v1.1.5 - license OK: version first, then the state of the license and nothing else, the same in every OFS indicator. Who the license belongs to stays in the settings, where only you see it.

The panel is now OFF by default, like in every other OFS indicator - adding the indicator no longer covers a corner of the chart until you ask for it. If you had it on, it stays on: the chart remembers your setting.

1.1.4 - A NEW VERSION NOTICE. Once a day the indicator asks orderflowsmith.com whether a newer version has been released and, if so, shows a small card on the chart with what the new version brings you.

It sends nothing at all - no license key, no product name, not a single parameter - so the request cannot tell anyone what you use, and one request covers every OFS indicator on the chart. The answer is signed with the same key as your license, so nothing else can put text on your chart. It never blocks anything and it stays silent when there is no connection.

There is one card per chart, not one per indicator, and it lists every product that has an update. Close it and it will not come back until the next release. It can be switched off in Settings under 01 License.

1.1.3 - LICENCE GATE ON NOTIFICATIONS. Platform alerts and Telegram messages now require a valid key, exactly like the drawing on the chart does. The gate sits in the place where a notification is actually sent, not at the caller, so it cannot be bypassed by a new call site. Any queued notifications are discarded while the key is missing, so they do not pile up and all fire at once the moment a key is entered.

0.4.0 - the live tile follows the current candle. A magnifier of the live candle belongs NEXT TO the live candle: it now sits beside it at its price level and moves with the chart when you scroll or zoom. When there is no room on the right it flips to the left side of the candle, at the chart edges it clamps inside, and when the live candle is scrolled out of view the tile disappears - a magnifier without the candle it magnifies would be a lie. The old behavior remains as Live Tile Anchor: Fixed Corner, with its own corner and offsets. The follow geometry lives in the tested engine - 11 new checks, 178 total.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the footprint my platform already draws?
The built-in footprint draws the data correctly and completely. CandlePulse reads it for you. It keeps the same underlying numbers but replaces the numeric matrix with a fixed-size picture, so you do not have to zoom the chart to see who is aggressive and whether that aggression is working.
Does it tell me when to buy or sell?
No, and that is deliberate. It describes what executed order flow did. Entry rules belong to a strategy, not to a visualisation - a colored band is context for a decision you make.
Is the blue block the same as absorption?
It is a candidate for absorption. Absorption cannot be observed directly from executed volume, only inferred from heavy effort meeting weak price progress at a boundary. That is why the state is called BLOCK by default, and why the indicator never says who is absorbing.
Why does it say warming up when I add it?
Activity is classified against the last 100 candles rather than against fixed volume thresholds. Until at least 30 candles have been measured, a percentile would be a number without meaning, so nothing is classified. On a fast chart this takes seconds.
Does the history change once new candles arrive?
No. A closed candle is frozen and never reclassified. Multi-candle sequences are shown on the candle where they were confirmed, never painted back onto the candle where they began - so what you saw live is what you see after reloading the chart.
Do I need Market-by-Order data?
No. CandlePulse works from executed Bid/Ask volume at price, which standard footprint feeds provide. Resting liquidity and order-book behavior are a different subject entirely.
Does it work on ES, BTC or FX?
Yes. There is no hard-coded volume threshold anywhere: activity is normalised by rolling percentiles and geometry by tick size. On spot FX, remember that the volume is your broker's rather than a central market's - the indicator does not pretend otherwise.
